The Hawke’s Bay Medical Research Foundation offers 2 – 3 funding rounds a year.

  1. The first (larger funding round) is advertised in early November with a cut-off date 31st of December. Successful applicants are notified mid-February; for research to commence early in the year.
  2. The second (studentship funding round) up to $5.000, may be advertised once or twice yearly; one in May with a cut-off date 12th June, and another in November with a cut-off date 31st December (alongside the larger round applications). Please note: studentship funding may not be available every year.

  • With particular relevance to the anticipated health benefits of your research, its relevance to Hawke’s Bay, any implications for reducing health inequities, contribution to Māori health and potential to enhance research research by Māori, for Māori.

  • Ethical approval. No grants awarded without ethical approval. Research grants may be applied for prior to approval but funds will not be given until ethical approval achieved.
  • Terms & conditions

    I the applicant
    • Agree to report on research progress 6 monthly or as agreed, on attached form
    • Agree that ethical approval has been sought and approved from local body or associated education institution as the case may be (evidence required before processing).
    • Agree for my name and the research title to be used for HBMRF website/ publicity
    • Acknowledge that failure to provide a report may result in having to return funding to the Foundation.
    • Acknowledge that if research is not completed for whatever reason, I will keep the Foundation informed and there may be circumstances where some of the funding many need to be returned.
    • Agree that on completion of research I will provide HBMRF with a pdf copy of the research/ publication
    • Agree that ethical approval has been applied for or received
